So, like I said yesterday, I have some plans for the new year... and since I'm not really a patient person I decided to start one of my new features now!!! This new feature is rightly titled Try It Out and really deals with trying new things. I'm not limiting it to food, clothes, DIY or anything else, I'm just gonna Try It Out and let you know how it goes. So, I decided to start with something that I was fairly confident I could succeed with (not that all Try It Out posts will be successful). I love the gals over at A Beautiful Mess and decided to try out their receipe for Rhubarb Toaster Strudel. I changed it up a bit to fit with what I had at home. I used frozen strawberries instead of rhubarb... and let me tell you what... This recipe is AH-MAZ-ING!!! It is so stinkin' good I could hardly stand it. I will never buy a strudel from the store again!!!
A few things I learned:
- I WAY overstuffed mine. I only used one sheet of puff pastry, and if you make only one sheet, you only need 1 cup of fruit instead of two. Don't forget to cut the sugar in half also!!
- I should have cooked them just a bit longer. I'm not sure if it was because I overstuffed them, but mine didn't puff up as much as I wanted. I think I needed to cook them a tad longer.
- Again, if you only use one sheet of puff pastry, then shorten the amount of glaze also. I started with 1/4 cup butter and ended up using about 3/4 cup of powdered sugar. Add sugar a 1/4 cup at a time with this smaller amount :)
That's it!! I hope you enjoy this strudel as much as I did (Thanks Emma!) Go ahead, Try It Out!!
